Change the Memory Allocation on a Dell Computer

The memory allocation of your Dell computer sets the parameters for the amount of hard drive space or virtual memory an application can reserve for its processes. Use the native tools in the Windows operating system to adjust the allocation of memory in your computer. Unlike other operating systems, for Windows-based computers you cannot specifically set how much space a specific program uses. But you can change the allocation to favor programs or system cache files. Step 1

Right-click the "Computer" icon and click "Properties."

Step 2

Click the "Advanced" tab in the "System Properties" window that appears, and click the "Settings" button under the "Performance" section.
